Well apart from whizzing around the countryside and having a marvelous adventure we've also been 'doing things' at home. Like repairing Landies, tending the trees and veggies, planting more trees and veggies, watching the antics of the birds and animals here which more often than not make far more interesting and amusing viewing than watching TV.
To start with the Landy repairs, this is Ricks report in his words... to good not to share....
'John and his beloved Land Rover "Myrtle" have now been reunited after many years of the old girl languishing in the shed due to fuel problems and a leaking welch plug. I have been helping John fix these problems and John can now run free across his paddocks and attend to whatever needs attending too. There'll be no stopping the lad, literally because the brakes don't work but why should that worry John because the difference between a Land Rover having brakes and not having brakes is inconsequential.'
John with his beloved Series 3 Landy with the longest name ever introducing
'Myrtle The Sulpher Crested Sapsucker Seeker From Sulpher City'
There has also been much work and many mutterings taking place in THE shed, all things Landy which is far beyond my ken...
At last we caught sight of the native freesias I planted what feels like months ago, these little beauties avoid having a lawnmower leaf cut. I am hoping they will start to spread now as their scent is fantastic and they are one of our favourite spring flowers.
Fascinating creatures which are well known for creating rather large burrows, not being to fussy where they dig I think they have upset a few gardeners. But so far we've only seen this lone fellow and no evidence of him living here.
And then we had to whizz off for a short break to Adelaide to pick up our tent YAY and stayed a couple of days with lovely friends who have a beautiful sanctuary in the Adelaide Hills. And while we were there someone rescued this little fellow and popped in to show us before taking it to the local Wildlife Sanctuary. I could not resist holding it and all it wanted to do was curl up and sleep.
| No idea just how much excitement it was causing |
And the adventures continued... in the blink of an eye we were off to the coast, Kilarney to be exact (which still sounds odd to me as previously I was only aware of the one in Ireland). Trailer attached, Deb and Fred... poor old Fred totally unimpressed with having to wear the muzzle, without it he would have driven us insane with his excited and very loud squeaking and singing before we'd even left Naracoorte.
As a treat once all was loaded up we took him off to the beach for a good run around. He loves chasing the ball into the sea but is scared of the waves if they come over his toes! Hilarious to watch, he did eventually go in for a bit of a paddle and then much to Deb and my amusement went and shook himself over Rick who'd gone off for a snooze......
Our journey home took us through many sleepy little towns Merino being one of them, This sign made us laugh and of course slow down.....
| Fred was delighted to have the muzzle off |
All good fun
And so to home
We have at last after what seems like forever got our dining room doors, fitted, glazed and with posh handles and lock. It is amazing what difference they make to noise and drafts, next winter we may even get too hot with the fire going. I'm not sure the photo does them justice, they really are stunning and incredibly heavy.
